The Firebird

$150.00

Groundhog Hickory Golf Clubs are hand restored in Phoenixville, Pennsylvania. An old steel town, that’s cleaned off the rust, made some repairs, and is now vibrant and colorful with new life. Kinda like our clubs. To celebrate this rebirth the town celebrates the Firebird Festival every December. Volunteer build a giant phoenix bird out of pallets and scrap lumber, then the whole town gathers around and sets it ablaze.

This club evokes the Firebird. Blackened scorch marks along the hickory wood shaft, blazing red leather and glowing orange whipping evoke rivers of molten iron and the burning flames of renewal with a wisp of grey whipping smoke. The reinforcement whipping near the head is steel grey and rust signifying the cycle of new birth and aging. Whether you are from Phoenixville, or anywhere around the world, this club will blaze a trail to the hole with every putt.

The club is a 1920’s Spalding Symetric with a 10 degree loft, 34.25 inch length, and a mid range C0 swing weight. Head is reset with new epoxy and a brass pin. The original hickory shaft was sanded, stained, and shellacked, with Italian pebble grain leather grip, and waxed Irish linen whipping thread.
