Stevie’s Playset
One of the first sets I restored….
My journey into hickory golf began with a 70th birthday trip to Scotland for my father Steve, or “Stevie” as most people call him. After I put a set of hickories together for myself, I put a set together for him. It was a mix of Scottish makers and I did them in Dad’s high school colors of green and gold. I learned so much how to repair, restore, and finish a club on this set. My first hosel pin replacement was to re-shaft a Tom Stewart deep face mashie I found on the stump of a shaft. I also did my first shaft repair on a beautiful George Nicoll mid iron associated with a pro from Augusta National. That club which Stevie and I have since nicknamed “The Master” has given my dad some of the best golf shots he’s ever hit. You will also see two drivers pictured. The first driver I made for the set had its head pop off the socket during play, so I found an Indestro with a nice strong socket and I gave it some extra reinforcing whipping. It amazes me how far my skills grew from that first driver to the new one.
